Twenty Categories helps children and adults build vocabulary, develop categorisation, and improve reading skills. Try Twenty Categories with your upper primary and secondary school students or with adults who have traumatic brain injury or aphasia.
This program uses multiple choice questions to teach 300 nouns from 20 categories. You select the categories to be covered, the criterion to end the lesson, and the question format. You can also turn both the voice and an animated character off if they are not appropriate.
Three instructional activities:
- Inclusion: Category to Noun
This activity asks the user to select a word that fits into a particular category (“Which one is a vegetable?”) - Inclusion: Noun to Category
This activity asks the user to select the category in which a word belongs (“What is a watermelon?”) - Exclusion
This activity asks the user to find the word that does not belong in a particular category (“Which one is not a flower?”)
