Read&Write (Version 9) GOLD is a fully comprehensive toolbar. It provides outstanding literacy support synonymous within Texthelp products in ANY Windows application. It is a simple to use toolbar that “floats” on top of any open Windows application. Assistance can then be called upon easily as you work.

Read&Write GOLD Edition is based on feedback that program users have given Texthelp Systems Ltd over the years since they first launched Read&Write in 1995. The feature set now included in Read&Write 9 GOLD includes all of the features of Read&Write Version 9 plus extra features. It allows students to work independently in an inclusive environment ensuring they “keep up” with their peers in the same classroom.

Increased independence leads to higher levels of motivation resulting in users who are empowered to carry on with study at home, school or even in the work place. Many students using the software find they are now realistically looking at a successful entry into TAFE or University with prospects of having the career to which they always aspired.

NEW: Texthelp Read&Write 9 GOLD now includes the International Voices set featuring 11 international languages. This is in addition to the standard Australian RealSpeak voices. Now you can have text-to-speech functionality within Read&Write GOLD for language students, students from overseas, and for students where English is a Second Language.

CORE FEATURES AND BENEFITS include:

• Speech Feedback
  Read text aloud from websites, PDF documents, Word documents and any other text onscreen. Text can be read back by each word, sentence, paragraph or as selected. Text can also be spoken as it is typed. Choices of adjustable voices are available. Words can be highlighted as they are spoken for audiovisual reinforcement, increasing word recognition levels. Screenreading of onscreen text, menus and icons is also available.
  NEW in 9 Read&Write 9 GOLD comes with new Texthelp UK voices – Tim and Tina.
• Phonetic Spell Checker
  Read&Write 9 GOLD has an enhanced Phonetic Spell Checker to analyse and correct even more spelling mistakes than before.

  Colour coded identification of errors helps the user to identify their mistakes. The phonetic spell checker assists the user in correcting the most complex of errors. All spelling suggestions, and dictionary definitions can be spoken. An error log gives the educator the opportunity to monitor individual user`s progress. Specialised dictionaries are included.
  NEW in 9 Improved ability to suggest the word a user is looking for.

• Homophone Support
  To eliminate the confusion of “like sounding words” (homophones) the software provides colour coding of the confusable words, and lists possible alternatives with audible definitions and sample sentences.
  NEW in 9 Improved homophone database with the option to select from basic or advanced homophone suggestions.
• Word Prediction Enhanced in 9
  Reduce the time and increase accuracy when trying to form words and sentences. As you type a list of suggestions will appear in the Prediction Panel; phonetic based suggestions are also available.

  Read&Write Word Prediction learns your style of writing and predicts the word you want to use next. The prediction database has been enhanced with many more new words and improvements have been made to the speed of processing and suggestion accuracy.

• Extensive Speaking Dictionary Enhanced in 9
  The Read&Write 9 GOLD dictionary has been enhanced to include more words and improved definitions. Each word in the dictionary has a description and a sample sentence, all of which can be spoken aloud.
  
• Word Wizard
  For when a user is just “lost for words”, the built-in thesaurus takes them from the word they know to the word they want.
• Study Skills Toolbar
  This is an additional toolbar where sections of text can be highlighted and collated together to produce study notes.

  A Summarise tool is also included on this toolbar. Simply highlight the text you want to summarise and click on the Summarise icon, choosing what percentage of the text you want in your summary.
  

• Web Highlighting
  The Web Highlighting feature of Read&Write GOLD allows you to experience dual colour highlighting with audible feedback in HTML documents. This is of particular use for those with literacy difficulties or visual impairments when accessing information online and it also aids user’s concentration and comprehension
• Daisy Reader
  Read&Write 9 GOLD contains Daisy Reading technology and allows you to read your Daisy Books while working within the Read&Write program.
• Teacher Toolkit
  Manage your students` profiles with the Teacher Toolkit. With more and more impetus for providing support within the exam or assessment environment, Read&Write GOLD provides a new resource for choosing which features are active in the program whilst still allowing the students to have reading and writing support. Using a toolkit that can only be accessed by an authorised user, teachers can customise Feature Sets which enable them to switch on or off any of the features of the program. • Customisable Toolbar

• Logs
  The logs are individualised per user. They will record spelling mistakes by date and type. This gives the educator the information needed to monitor the progress of individual students and adapt their Individual Education Plans accordingly.
• Multi Profile Function
  Allow many users to save and access their individual settings on one machine. A cost effective way of providing the support of our software to many students.
• Single Word Display
  Encourage speed-reading and comprehension with this simple one word audible display of words from selected text.

Additionally includes:

1. Scanning
   Version 9 GOLD has an inbuilt document scanning tool (ABBYY FineReader), bringing true “one click” scanning to Read&Write 9 GOLD.

   Scan ANY paper based document or saved image into MS Word, HTML, MS Excel, PDF format or any other major word processor. Not only can the scanning function be used with a scanner, but it can now also be used with most digital cameras. For example, you could take a picture of a poster while you are out, and then use Read&Write 9 GOLD to read it aloud for you at home. Once scanned, the text may be read aloud in any one of five display/audible methods ensuring that users have a supportive listening and learning experience.

2. PDFaloud (Note: This program includes the full PDFaloud program)
   PDFaloud enables users to listen to any PDF file on any computer or network, provided the file’s security settings allow for text copying. PDF (or Portable Document Files) files are a real problem for people with reading difficulties who rely on the computer to speak out text for them. PDF files need to be opened up in the Adobe Acrobat Reader program. These files can`t be read aloud easily with programs like Texthelp Read&Write – because the text in them can`t be highlighted. However, when Texthelp Read&Write GOLD is installed, an extra toolbar is added into any copies of Adobe Acrobat Reader or Adobe Acrobat on the computer. This toolbar is able to read any PDF file page instantly – even reading documents with thousands of pages.
3. Speech Input (voice dictation)
   Read&Write 9 GOLD uses Microsoft`s own speech input engine integrated with UK English spellings, suitable for use in Australia. Speech Input allows you to convert your speech to text. Now you can talk to your computer and it will convert it into text in your chosen document.

4. Speech Maker
   Convert text to MP3, WMA or WAV files and listen to text “on the move” with portable digital audio devices; ideal for students needing to revise their work at the end of the day on the way home from school, TAFE, Uni or work. Adjust the play back voice to suit individual needs.
5. Screenshot Reader Enhanced in 9
   The Screenshot Reader speech-enables previously inaccessible text, such as locked PDF documents or inaccessible Flash web pages.
6. Fact Finder
   A web search tool that can collect a selected word from ANY document or application and do a quick web search to your nominated engine(s) and return the information you need instantly without having to type in individual searches. Click here for more details.
7. Fact Folder
   A study or research tool for organising thoughts and ideas. It allows users to capture text from ANY application (including the Internet), classify it, attach pictures, bibliography information and record its source. When research is complete convert facts to a text document at the click of a button, download the text to a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), convert to HTML or turn the text into a slide show – excellent for revision.
8. Fact Mapper Enhanced in 9
   This feature offers you the ability to produce a visual representation of facts and ideas onscreen. This is particularly useful when brainstorming, revising and drafting work.

   With the Fact Mapper in Read&Write 9 GOLD you can use images and colour to help remember what your key facts are when revising or use it to brainstorm ideas or outline the key concepts when drafting work.

9. Translator Enhanced in 9
   Read&Write 9 GOLD’s Translator tool provides easy access to one-click translation of English words into Spanish, French, German or Italian. 10. Screen Masking NEW in 9
    Screen masking lets you block out any text you are not reading. It is a valuable concentration aid available on Read&Write 9 GOLD; a spotlight can also be turned on to focus on a paragraph or sentence.
11. Simple / Scientific Calculator
    An onscreen speaking calculator providing all the main functions of a simple or scientific calculator with audible audit trail and multiple display memory locations.
12. Pronunciation Tutor
    Breaks words into syllables allowing easy recognition of syllables in a word. An onscreen moving mouth will assist in the development of more accurate speech. Pronunciation is enhanced by use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. Click here for more details.
13. RealSpeak Voices
    Read&Write GOLD comes with RealSpeak Solo voices – which give a more realistic sounding human voice and load in a fraction of the time taken by previous voices. Australian RealSpeak SAPI5 voices are available with Texthelp Read&Write programs from March 2005!
