Switch WarsScanning on an alien shipTargetting an alien spacecraftAlien ship targetted

Alien spacecraft have invaded our galaxy and the only thing that can save us is your switch. This exciting arcade-style game features four activities designed to teach cause-and-effect, step scanning, auto-scanning and reaction time. Great for older students who cannot control standard or adapted video games.

Switch Wars Overview
The Switch Wars activity requires the switch user to fire at a moving alien spacecraft. As long as the spacecraft is outside of the targeting frame it is safe. But once inside the frame the switch user can destroy it with a single switch press. Ships are launched from random directions and at random speeds. The targeting frame can be adjusted from large to medium to small.

Cause-and-Effect
This is an error-free activity where each switch press targets and destroys a stationary alien spacecraft. Realistic looking explosions are followed by funny, attention getting sounds for added positive reinforcement. When all ships have been destroyed on the current screen the switch user is warped to another part of the galaxy.

Linear/Step Scanning
This linear scanning activity requires the switch user to watch and wait as the sighting frame scans across the screen from left to right. When the sight reaches the stationary alien spacecraft the switch user presses the switch to destroy the ship. If the switch user misses the alien fires back. When the ship has been destroyed the switch user is warped to another part of the galaxy.

Auto Scanning
Cross scanning requires the switch user to watch and wait as a horizontal sighting line scans from the top to the bottom of the screen. When the line intersects the stationary alien spacecraft the switch user presses the switch to start the sighting frame scanning from left to right. When the sight reaches the alien spacecraft the switch user presses the switch again to destroy the ship. If the switch user misses the alien fires back. When the ship has been destroyed the switch user is warped to another part of the galaxy.

Settings
The Switch Wars settings dialog allows you to set all of the parameters for the Switch Wars activities. These include a choice of rewards for success; scanning speeds; auditory scan options, levels of game difficulty; and the option to display scores onscreen for the student playing the switch wars games.
