GamesPlayer can be followed independently or used to provide support for the Nessy Learning Programme, a teaching resource used by many schools and home educators. Nessy GamesPlayer is a scaled down version of the full Learning Programme but is also a complete computer game that follows a storyline where skills improve as children grow their own pet Nessy.
The story takes children on a journey to the distant mountains of Ness to hatch a mystery egg and grow their own pet monster. As Nessy grows they are led through a series of motivating games that follow a structured reading and spelling programme devised by specialist teachers at the Bristol Dyslexia Centre.
Homework mode includes a recording facility that allows children to record their own words to play with the computer games. In the Games Arcade parents and teachers can access 1200 pre-recorded words plus many graded sentences, so that they can set a spelling or reading game as homework. The pre-recorded lists include key words from the UK National Literacy Strategy.
The range of difficulty options makes GamesPlayer suitable for all children, including both gifted students and those with special educational needs.
