Build confidence in handling and recording money in simulated real-life situations
Handling and recording money is difficult to teach. Students need lots of practice, and this is exactly what MoneyTalks! provides. In four simulated settings: At the Checkout, Shopping, Eating Out and Loot – it gets them working with the language of money, whilst consolidating basic number skills.
Students practise to:
- use a till
- pay bills
- calculate totals
- work out change
- work with Australian currency (also works with US, Canadian, New Zealand Dollars, Pounds, and Euros)
With its set of pre-loaded files (as in Talking Clocks PLUS, MoneyTalks! is suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities. TEEM’s evaluator* explained,
“MoneyTalks! was used in my Numeracy Hour for 40 minutes at a time, over four days. Children of different abilities had the chance to use the software and it matched the learning objective, which was to solve real life problems involving number. The children had the chance to try out all four activities on the CD and then printed out their answer sheets. They were highly motivated by the sheets with ticks showing where they had been successful.”
MoneyTalks! customisable features:
- change costs, totals, number of items bought or sold, currency
- change the maximum amounts used in the activities,
- set the number of questions
- set how many ‘goes’ the students get
- specify whether or not the software should correct their answers
- set level of onscreen help available
- set up as a test for assessing skills and identifying weaknesses.
The software provides differentiated practice for all abilities at primary and lower secondary levels, and is also ideal for Special Educational Needs and Adult Basic Education. You can print records of work done and generate an unlimited number of worksheets with the software. Sample worksheets come with the pack, along with a Handbook, the CD-ROM itself and a handy guide to using the software in the classroom.
