The Mayer-Johnson PCS Symbol Set is widely used in the field of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) as well as for literacy support. Developed over 25 years, the PCS set comprises of symbols designed to represent words and short phrases to support children and adults with communication challenges.

About symbols
Symbols support reading and writing for people with a variety of learning needs. Each symbol describes a concept and there are symbols for practically all commonly used words. The Mayer-Johnson PCS for Clicker and ClozePro comprises 11,000 symbols (including all of the Core UK symbols, and those contained in the 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 Addendum collections).
Providing a symbol with each word in a Clicker or ClozePro grid helps students to find the words they want. Having the symbols appear in the text they have completed enables the student to read it back. A symbol library is therefore a perfect partner for Clicker and ClozePro to support students with special literacy or communication needs.
