Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh Version 4
by Kurzweil Educational Systems
Kurzweil 3000 is a scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities or reading difficulties
Kurzweil 3000 is the premier reading, writing and learning software for struggling students. Because it is also content-independent, teachers in primary and secondary schools alike use it to help students succeed in the classroom regardless of their curriculum.
The software can access virtually any document or publication-printed or electronic. It reads text aloud for auditory support while a patented dual-highlighting feature provides visual reinforcement of onscreen text.
Kurzweil 3000 is widely recognised as an important tool that helps students improve their fluency, reading speed and comprehension. It offers a powerful way to access curriculum material for students who struggle with printed text so they can keep up with assigned reading, learn critical study skills, and successfully complete writing projects and tests independently.
Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh is designed specifically for Macintosh computers with a simple, graphic user interface that appeals to a wide range of students from primary school to higher education.

Features and Benefits
- Patented Dual Highlighting
Kurzweil 3000’s patented dual highlighting of onscreen text improves students’ reading performance by highlighting a sentence, line or phrase in one colour and highlighting each word in another colour as it is read aloud.
- Read the Web Using Mozilla Firefox
Kurzweil 3000 enhances audible and visual access to web pages with Mozilla Firefox, opening up the resources of the Internet to all students, while providing the same reading and reference features that users enjoy within Kurzweil 3000.
- Create Audio File with iTunes® Integration
Taking your reading where you want has never been easier with the Create Audio File feature. You’ll have a number of options for your file conversions, including AAC, Apple Lossless, or MP3; a choice of reading voice and reading speed; and the option to save audio files to a folder or to an iTunes playlist for effortless transfer to your iPod®.
- Unique Test-Taking Capabilities
With Kurzweil 3000, students can independently complete worksheets, classroom tests or standardised exams containing circle-the-answer, fill-in-the blanks, true/false, and essay questions within the program.
- Powerful Study Skills Tools
Students can improve their reading comprehension and retention with tools such as text highlighting, annotations, Bubble Notes, voice notes, bookmarks and extraction of outlines or word lists.
- Use Bubble Notes for Powerful Instructional Support
Teachers can embed Bubble Notes containing questions and instructions to assigned reading to help students stay on task and support reading comprehension.
- Quick Access to Look-it-up Tools
One-click access to word support features such as dictionary definitions, synonyms, syllabification, and word spelling helps students read and write independently.
- Flexible Writing Tools
As students type, they can use the check-spelling-while-typing and speak-while-typing features to quickly recognise and correct spelling mistakes. The audible spell checker and comprehensive Word Prediction feature further assist students with writing and editing reports, essays and papers independently.
- Word Prediction
Students can type the beginning letters of a word, even with phonetic spelling, see a list of word choices, and click on individual words in the list to hear possible choices before selecting the word they want.
- Access to Electronic Files
In addition to Kurzweil Educational Systems’ format, Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh opens and works with many types of electronic files, including: Microsoft Word, AppleWorks, ClarisWorks, RTF, and PDF files (PDF file support only with Kurzweil 3000 Professional Colour and Black-and-White editions), as well as the Windows version of Kurzweil 3000 for easy file sharing across school networks.
- Classic Literature CD-ROM included
Over 1000 electronic texts, including literary classics for adults and children, reference materials, and historical manuscripts come with Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh.
- Accurate Display of Graphics and Illustrations with Text
Kurzweil 3000 files retain the original text and graphics of scanned materials in colour or black-and-white.
- One Licence Allows Installation on Two Computers
For convenience, the Stand-Alone or Single User Kurzweil 3000 software licence allows you, the primary user, to install the software on a second computer for your own exclusive use. For example, if you have installed your Kurzweil 3000 on a desktop computer at work, you can also install the same software on a laptop computer for home use.Note: You may only use one (1) installation at a time. Concurrent use on two (2) or more computers is not authorised without purchasing additional licences.
- Network-Wide Access with the Macintosh Network Edition
With licenses that “float” instead of being tied to specific computers, Kurzweil 3000 is easy for students to access from any computer on your school’s network. For IT administrators, installation and administration of Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh is simple since the network edition tracks the number of licenses in use at any given time and limits concurrent use to the number of licenses purchased.
