Gandjau Wangai (Hungry Snake)
by Hands On Concepts
Literacy activities based around an Aboriginal story - a great resource for all primary school classrooms and libraries!
After working with Aboriginal author/illustrator Karen Reys to adapt her unique story book Gandjau Wangai, the Hands On Concepts team from Perth, have now produced an accessible dual CD-ROM kit that all children can enjoy. Great for mouse, switch or IntelliKeys users.
The story title means “hungry snake” and the story line follows the snake’s interaction with other Australian animals as it seeks something to eat.
Karen has been involved in extensive research to revive the Badjala language, the traditional language of Aboriginals from Fraser Island, QLD. She has used this language to write an original story that all children can enjoy. The English version of the story is also included.
The Story CD-ROM features Karen reading the story in her traditional language, an English version of the story is also included. Information about the author, the Badjala language and story characters provide further depth and content.
