Features and Benefits

- A Laptop Alternative
The combination of a full-size keyboard, the wide screen and Palm OS provides much of the functionality of a laptop. - Runs Over 20,000 Applications – The Power of Palm OS
With Palm OS, you have access to thousands of Palm applications. Dana takes Palm OS further by including a full-size keyboard and a screen that is 3.5 times wider than the typical handheld screen. You can type or enter data using the full-size keyboard or by using the Dana stylus directly on the touch screen.Dana works with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, and is compatible with scientific probes and Dana Science Solutions for enhanced learning opportunities.
- Communication
Dana Wireless has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b) technology which allows you to check your email or browse the web using a third-party web browser without a modem or cable. Use Dana’s built-in IR (infrared) for exchanging documents between other Dana, the teacher’s computer and Palm Powered devices. - Portable
Made of sturdy polycarbonate ABS, Dana is lightweight and durable. It’s easy to transport in a briefcase, backpack, or under your arm. - Expandable
Two Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia Card (MMC) compatible slots let you add memory, add devices, backup your data and more. - Connectable
Easily synchronise data with a home, classroom or college room PC. Ability to share data and software with another Dana or Palm-powered device. Two USB ports built-in. And you can print wirelessly across the network or directly to IrDA-enabled printers, or via selected USB printers. - Affordable
At one third the cost of a laptop you can put technology into the hands of more students. - Full-featured Word Processing
The pre-installed AlphaWord software has formatting, font support, spell check and thesaurus; wireless document exchange (beaming) facilitates group collaboration; and you can open and save AlphaWord text documents on a network file server easily. - Flexible
Dana’s screen image rotates 90° for note taking while held clipboard-style. No waiting – instant on/off and autosaves work. - Accessibility Options
Includes all of the accessibility options built into the AlphaSmart 3000:- Sticky Keys:
Allows “one-handed” use two keys together such as the Shift key or other modifier keys (Alt, Command, Option). These keys are latched down until the next key is pressed – saving the students having to co-ordinate their movements sufficiently to hold two keys down at once. - Auto Repeat:
When turned off, this feature stops a string of repeated letters appearing onscreen when a key is pressed and held down for too long. - Slow Keys:
For students with a tremor or the need to move their fingers across the keyboard, accidentally touching other keys on the way, Slow Keys makes life easier. You can set a time delay from 1/10 of a second to 3 seconds before the AlphaSmart will accept a key press and type a letter.
Dana also offers flexible keyboard layouts (right or left hand only) and variable font sizes (large font makes text easier to read) to assist students who have special physical requirements to access the power and freedom of portable computing.
