by Crick Software
Proven to be very successful in helping young learners with word recognition and prediction skills

For all ages, and all subjectsexpandClick to collapse
Whether you’re a special needs coordinator, a primary class teacher or a secondary history teacher, ClozePro is for you!
ClozePro gives you the option of installing either the Primary or the Secondary examples, or both. The option you choose sets up an appropriate default look and feel for your age group, which easily can be customised.
Especially relevant for primary schools is the child-friendly Sassoon font, plus the Crick Picture Library 2, containing more than 1800 curriculum graphics to illustrate your activities.
For secondary schools, the range of example activities covers many curriculum areas, demonstrating the power of ClozePro across a wide age, ability and subject range.
The Quick Tour, accessible from the opening screen, is a great introduction to the power of ClozePro in both primary and secondary environments.
Create activities in secondsexpandClick to collapse
Creating an activity is as simple as pasting in some text from a web page or document, selecting the text to remove and choosing an appropriate layout. It only takes a few seconds!
1. Type or paste some text into ClozePro.

2. The text you remove is placed automatically in a ‘grid’.

3. Run the activity, or print it as a worksheet for the whole class to use.

Fast, thorough assessment of student progressexpandClick to collapse
Assess student progress in any subject area and save hours you would otherwise spend creating worksheets and marking work. You can create anything from single page activities for quick assessments to a set of linked pages that form the basis for a whole end of unit assessment.
While an activity is being completed on-screen, a report is automatically generated and stored on the local computer or on your network. The report begins with an overview, and you can drill down for detailed information, right down to viewing the page exactly as the student completed it. This level of detail enables you to track individual progress and diagnose problems.
Onscreen, on paper, or on the whiteboardexpandClick to collapse
Print perfectly formatted worksheets, work with the whole class on the whiteboard or have individual students complete the activity onscreen. ClozePro is so versatile that you’ll find yourself using it in a variety of contexts:
- On the Whiteboard
A ClozePro activity makes a great plenary activity, either to start a lesson or for a quick revision activity at the end.

- Onscreen
Used individually on the classroom computer or in the computer suite, ClozePro gives you detailed reports that enable you to monitor student progress. - On paper
Just two mouse clicks prints an entire activity as a perfectly formatted worksheet for completion by students away from the computer. Creating your worksheets like this will save you hours compared with trying to do it in a word processor!
Support students with special needsexpandClick to collapse
ClozePro includes built-in support for a range of special needs, including dyslexia, learning difficulties and physical disabilities.
ClozePro and Symbols
By adding the symbol set of your choice to ClozePro, you can create cloze activities that are more accessible for students who benefit from this level of support.

ClozePro activities can be easily adapted for students of all abilities. By having the whole class working on differentiated tasks, you ensure that those students who need symbol support feel as included and involved as the rest of the group.
The way in which you incorporate the symbols is up to you; choose to have the symbols appear in the main text of the activity, in the missing words grid, or both! ClozePro displays both the symbol and the corresponding text, encouraging learners to make the connection between the words and the images. By using the built-in speech support, learners develop their understanding of the link between the symbols they see and the words they hear.
The following symbol libraries are available to use with ClozePro: Widgit Symbols, Mayer-Johnson PCS, and SymbolStix.
Learning Difficulties
ClozePro’s flexibility enables you to meet the learning needs of all your students, including those with learning difficulties.
Speech support
High quality, British English speech enables students to listen to the sentence they are working on, and to ‘try out’ words by listening to them before placing them in the gaps.
Customisable prompts
When you create an activity, you choose whether or not students will have access to the prompt tool, and if so, the nature of the prompt that will be given. This is a useful way to be able to give additional help while still requiring input from the student. The report automatically records all uses of the prompt.
Differentiation
The flexibility of ClozePro enables you to easily created differentiated activities for students of different abilities. Methods of simplifying an activity include:
- Using a simplified version of the text
- Removing fewer words from the text
- Splitting up the text into smaller chunks, so that each page contains just one paragraph or even just one sentence.
- Supporting words with pictures
- Limiting the number of choices for each gap
- Varying the length of each gap according to the correct answer
ClozePro makes it easy to make these changes, so you can very quickly customise your activities to suit the varied needs of your students.
Low Vision
In addition to the high quality speech and the clean, uncluttered screen layout, ClozePro includes a range of extensive accessibility options for students with low vision.
- Customisable zoom options
- Special high-contrast colour options
- Variable line spacing
- Large toolbar option
Switch accessible
For students who are unable to use a keyboard or mouse, ClozePro includes a comprehensive range of switch access options that offer complete control of the program with a minimum of switch presses. Just connect a Crick USB switch box, set the scanning method and you’re ready. This is a great way to provide switch users with access to the curriculum, and to assess the comprehension of non-verbal students.
