Communicative efficiency exclusively for the V and Vmax

Developed by Amy Román, MS, CCC-SLP, exclusively for use on the V and Vmax, AlphaCore is intended for literate adults who strive to improve the way in which they interact with their communication partners. Its combination of alphabetised core words, keyboards, sentence starters and stored messages enable communicators to share messages with partners promptly and effectively with little navigation.

Much like a dictionary or phone book, users can construct messages by searching for a single alphabetised core word, altogether eliminating the need to identify appropriate parts of speech to build a message.

AlphaCore encourages natural interaction

All areas of AlphaCore include content that is appropriate for adults and allows the user to help communication partners understand how to interact with them more effectively. For example, statements such as “I use a speech device because…” and “Please don’t try to guess what I’m saying” are included. These tools reduce the amount of frustration encountered by both the device user and the communication partner, making communication more natural and fluid.

Discussing stories and current events is simplified with AlphaCore. Users can save stories and news items to their device, and share them with others at a later time with little navigation. This decreases the amount of time necessary to share and discuss issues of particular interest. A scratch pad can also be used to compose and save temporary messages that can be deleted with ease.

These AlphaCore tools simplify the communication process for the device user and his or her communication partners, making communication more natural.

Different sizes suit varying needs

AlphaCore includes three sizes of buttons to fit varying needs and abilities. The user can choose the size they find most convenient and easiest to use:

• AlphaCore Mini features a small core vocabulary with large buttons and font for those who have difficulty targeting
  
• AlphaCore Midsize offers a larger array of core vocabulary options, as well as topic pages. AlphaCore Midsize is suitable for scanning users, or those who have some difficulty targeting.
  
• AlphaCore Extreme provides the maximum amount of core vocabulary options and topic pages, and is an excellent fit for those who are able to easily target buttons. It also allows for broad customisation.

AlphaCore can exist as a complete user through pages that can be collected and assembled into a single package on the V or Vmax. It can also be imported into any user in the InterAACt framework, such as Young Adult.
