Blob, Spikey, Tor and Chompy help early learners interact with computers

Blob has long been a popular character in switch software for young children. Blob for Windows brings the suite up to date with 3-D graphics and high quality sound. It is ideal for all children, especially those with learning difficulties or motor disabilities.

The two sets of programs, Blob1 and Blob2, contain a carefully structured set of activities which explore very basic visual concepts aimed at developing cognitive skills. They also provide activities for young children with physical disabilities who are learning to develop control over a computer input, such as switches. The programs can be operated with the keyboard, mouse buttons or switches.

Each program has a variety of levels:Blob

Blob1 is a first introduction to using a computer. The activities are simple with clear graphics animation and sound. Although there are goals to achieve, children will enjoy playing with Blob, and children who make progress in very small steps will not be discouraged. At the first level the activities give experience in

  • Cause-and-effect
  • Attention to the screen
  • Making choices.

Blob2 continues these skill areas, taking them to higher levels. The activities include:

  • Colour and shape matching
  • Visual discrimination
  • Directions

At this level the user will also be concentrating on developing control skills.

There is no text on the screens at all, selection of the games and inputs is by icons making it suitable for multi-lingual use.
