WordRead’s ability to make the computer talk is one of its key innovative features. WordRead includes the RealSpeak Australian Lee and Karen voices. These are high quality, human synthesised voices. However, WordRead may also work with any other text to speech synthesiser voices that may be installed on the computer.

WordRead V3 includes the following extensive range of speech facilities:
- Have text read from anywhere within Microsoft Word or the web browser.
- Have any text read back instantly once selected by the mouse. Useful for making web pages and emails speak.
- Echo back letters, words or sentences as they are typed into the computer in most applications. This is useful for positive confirmation that the correct text has been typed in.
- Automatically hear ‘ToolTips’ read by hovering the mouse over the tooltip.
- Automatically hear many menu items and ‘objects’ read by hovering the mouse over the item.
- Make audio files from documents for listening to later on the computer. The files can also be transferred from the computer to a portable audio device such as an iPod (using separate portable audio player software).
- Pause between words gives more clarity of speech if needed.
- Many of these speaking features can be turned off if they are not useful by configuring WordRead in the Speech Settings screen.

WordRead is the ideal tool to proofread written work. By using WordRead to speak back the text, mistakes that would have not been spotted can be heard. This will improve accuracy and speed of the proofreading process.
Making Web Pages SpeakexpandClick to collapse
WordRead allows most web pages to be spoken back easily in the web browser. To do so, load up the web page that is required to be spoken back and open WordRead.
If the green Play button is pressed the web page will be spoken from ‘top to bottom’ in an order that is related to the way the web page is built.
By clicking the mouse at the beginning of the web page article a ‘virtual cursor’ will appear.
Pressing the green Play button will start the read back, and the sentence will highlight in red.
WordRead will carry on reading the web page until the Stop button is pressed.
An alternate way of making hyperlinks and text in web pages speak is to just ‘hover the mouse’ over the text.
If there is any difficulty reading back a web page, simply select the text with the mouse and press the Play button. WordRead will read anything that is selected with the mouse.
Making Other Computer Programs SpeakexpandClick to collapse
WordRead will speak back any text that is selected with the mouse. To do this, select or block some text with the mouse.
The text will be spoken back immediately once the mouse button is depressed. To read the text back again, press the green Play button on the WordRead toolbar and it will repeat the text.
To not have the text read back when it is select, turn it off from within the Advanced Speech settings.
ScreenMarkerexpandClick to collapse
WordRead now includes Claro ScreenMarker reading and tracking feature. Place multiple markers on the screen and move around using the mouse. ScreenMarker is ideal for proofreading and for use during presentations.
