Touchscreen Monitors

You'll benefit from the industry leader in touchscreen technology

Image of Touchscreen Monitors

In the past, Spectronics has not offered Touch Monitors to our customers, as they have been too expensive. Many of you told us that you would prefer to use the cheaper “clip on” TouchWindows attached to the front of the monitor instead. However, in the past year, prices on Touch Monitors have come down in price sufficiently for them to be considered a real alternative to the clip-on TouchWindows.

How are the Touch Monitors better than touchscreens which need to be attached to the front of the computer? Read on to find out.

Why Use a Touch Monitor?

Pointing at something you want is a natural way to communicate. Young children often point accurately and with understanding long before they can react in other ways.

Bright, noisy computer programs can provide the stimulus needed by children and people with special needs. However, a mouse may require too much motor skill and switches may be too indirect. Touch monitors operate with standard mouse operated programs and provide the most direct input method of all. The user watches the screen and uses it as an input method. There is a direct connection between action and result.

Which is Best for You?

Our touch monitors have a touch sensitive surface bonded directly onto the screen. Unlike add-on touch screens or touch windows, this can not be interfered with by the user and is much more accurate and durable.

We supply touch monitors in a range of types and sizes. The standard Touchscreen monitors will only work with a finger touch, while the version with TouchPen can also operate with a soft stylus/TouchPen. The flat panel LCD MicroTouch touchscreen monitor costs a little more but offer great flexibility in positioning using a range of mounting systems.

TIP: Touchscreen monitors work best for those students who have the motor skills to be able to reach out and touch the screen comfortably, ideally with their fingertips. Encourage the student to touch the screen, then remove their hand so they don’t obscure it and lessen the impact of the reward. As the student’s skills improve, try encouraging them to touch specific objects on the screen – Touch Balloons is a useful program to help achieve this. Being able to identify and target an object is a pre-requisite skill to using a touchscreen to make choices.
