Boardmaker Series Books and Social Safety Bundle

Why?

Many children have a special need at intervals of their education. Short term issues may arise from a temporary developmental delay, or from other issues as a result of emotions and family breakdown.

Other children may have permanent conditions such as Down syndrome, intellectual disability or an Autism spectrum disorder such as Asperger’s Syndrome. 4.3% of students enrolled in Australian Schools in 2006 have severe disabilities with close to 2.4 million children enrolled in Australian primary schools in 2006.

Who?

Pear Shaped Learning Aids was established by Kristin Mathiassen and Duncan Norton in 2008. The range of products have been developed to provide ready to use learning systems for children with severe and profound disabilities as well as children with learning difficulties in mainstream and special schools in Australia.

How?

All products are designed to assist teacher and teacher’s aides to help school aged children learn the basics of:

  • reading
  • matching
  • sorting
  • identification
  • sequencing
  • and sentence creation

Along with a variety of other skills, basic concepts, alphabet, basic mathematics, communication and social safety.

The use of detachable images individualises Pear Shaped Learning Aids product and are used through out the binder books, creating a more interactive learning method for the child. Progress notes are filed at the back of each binder, enabling teachers/teachers aides to keep a record of the child’s progress. The information recorded can be of great importance to the IEP (Individual Education Plan). A document recording the child’s progress, behaviour management, goals, academic development, etc…

Pear Shaped Learning Aids products cover: speech and language skills, sensory and perceptual, visual skills and fine motor skills.

Children with additional needs and intellectual disabilities take longer to learn, revising skills even after they appear to have been accomplished, helps to ensure a concept has been retained and processed.

Pear Shaped Learning Aids products feature appropriate, relevant and enjoyable activities which engage the child. After all learning should be fun!
