Barbara, for several months I’ve been deliberating whether to go down the road of Netbook + Clicker 6 or ipad3 + ? some Clicker equivalant app, if there is one.
My son is in a regular classroom with support for all literacy & numeracy activities. He almost 12 & in NSW Year5. His severe Auditory processing disorder has meant that phonemic awareness is still poor and we continue to work on CVC onset & rime activities, some one syllable sight words and he has not yet been able to write an indepentent sentence. … hence I felt Clicker would be best for his literacy development in the classroom. Apps such as Special Words seem limited to a young child’s vocabulary. Are there any upper primary-aged content/interest apps or software at basic CVC or small word level?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Kathie,
Thanks for your question. As far as I am aware there aren’t any apps as comprehensive as Clicker 6 which can allow for a whole range of writing activities with different levels of supports. You might already be aware that we run some free webinars where you can find outmore about Clicker 6 and how it may suit your son.
Some other software for early to mid primary is Reading Doctor which you can get a free trial of.
I have come across one app which has a range of word families and CVC activities you can work on. If you can get past the American voices then there are a great range of fun activities to do. The app is called My Word Wall. But as you have found, many of them focus on kindy to pre primary and early grades.
I’m happy to talk with you further about this if you wish to email me charlenec@spectronics.com.au
