About Charlene Cullen

Charlene has worked as a speech pathologist, supporting people with complex communication needs and learning disabilities for the past 15 years. She has worked in a variety of roles within the Disability Services of Western Australia, including Senior Speech Pathologist, Rural and Remote Resource Therapist and Regional Team Manager.

Charlene is a trained Key Word Sign (formerly Makaton) presenter, certified Hanen It Takes Two to Talk presenter and a member of the Apple Consultants Network. Charlene is also an official Proloquo2Go / Proloquo4Text trainer, and TBoxApps Trainer for Therapy Box.

Charlene has developed strong skills in and a passion for, the area of AAC and assistive technologies. She enjoys presenting workshops and providing consultancy services to support and educate parents, teachers and therapists in the use and application of inclusive technologies.

Charlene has been a full time member of the Professional and Consultancy Services Team at Spectronics.

    Having a son with dyslexia I am looking at forming a support group for far North Queensland and providing the occasional educational seminar. Would like to know the cost of workshops, people numbers required and if you would travel to Townsville.

    Hi
    We have Texthelp on our student computers at the University of Otago.

    A student is experiencing a problem where he selects text and the reader suddenly stops randomly, and he has to restart it. Do you know of this problem and a possible solution?

    Another question:
    I have asked our Software Procurement staff whether our site licence goes as far as allowing installation on a student’s private computer (or can it only be installed on university computers)?

    • Hi Steve. I will answer your second question first. Your institution has the standard site licence for Tertiary College / Higher Ed, and this does not cover home use. So the software can only be installed on university computers. You would need to upgrade to the Tertiary College/University Higher Ed and Home Site Licence to allow installation on all student computers. An alternative for an individual student could be to access Read&Write for Google if they use the Chrome browser and Google Drive – for more information for an individual student see https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/readwrite-for-google/inoeonmfapjbbkmdafoankkfajkcphgd and http://rw.texthelp.com/drive/Support/premiumupgrade, and for information for an institution see http://www.spectronics.com.au/product/readwrite-for-google

      In relation to your first question, we will need more information so we can help you out. Can you please email Terry Prescott (tech support here at Spectronics) via terryp@spectronics.com.au with the following: computer operating system the student is using and what version it is, any other specs about the student’s computer eg processor, memory etc, what version of Read&Write (I am guessing 11.5 but it would be good to confirm) the student has, and what software / programs the student is using when this happens eg is the student using Word, a PDF file, on the web, or does it happen all the time across all programs. Terry will then be able to help you out, ask more questions if needed, and get the problem solved. Cheers, Greg.
