This opening webinar provides an introduction to what early skills can be worked on with students to help successful development of oral language, reading, spelling and writing. We will discuss some of the important facts, factors in success, as well as everyday strategies that help early literacy development. Tips for finding the right Apps for early literacy is covered and we look at some key App features that can be considered as you are selecting Apps. There are many ways the iPad can help develop Early Literacy skills, and webinars Part 1-4 will take a closer look at a selection of these Apps

Apps for Early Literacy – Part 1 (books, story telling and oral language)

This Part 1 webinar in the Apps for Early Literacy series, will discuss both Apps and strategies for using the iPad to successfully develop Early Literacy skills through the use of books and story telling. Also, a small selection of apps to develop oral language skills (which links so closely to literacy development) are also demonstrated.

Apps for Early Literacy – Part 2 (letter-sound identification, letter tracing)

This Part 2 webinar in the Apps for Early Literacy series, will discuss both Apps and strategies for using the iPad to successfully develop Early Literacy skills through developing letter-sound identification skills; as research shows us that learning sound awareness and letter-sound links is vital. A selection of apps to work on letter recognition and letter tracing are also demonstrated.

Apps for Early Literacy – Part 3 (rhyme, phonics for reading and spelling)

This Part 3 webinar in the Apps for Early Literacy series, will discuss both Apps and strategies for using the iPad to successfully develop Early Literacy skills through the use of rhyme and word families. In addition, this webinar covers a wide range of ESSENTIAL apps that can begin a student reading and spelling simple 3-5 sound words, thus consolidating their phonics skills.

This Part 4 webinar in the Apps for Early Literacy series, will discuss both Apps and strategies for using the iPad to successfully develop Early Literacy skills through: spelling, sight words and sentence building. We look at some more complex/advanced spelling apps, apps that allow us to create our own spelling tests, as well as some apps that allow students to do spelling/writing with alternatives to pencil and paper. A selection of both sight word and sentence building apps are also demonstrated.
