What happened at the last Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference?

What happened last time?

The Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference 2010 was the fourth biennial Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference hosted by Spectronics, with previous conferences being held in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The 2010 event was the biggest one yet – with 700 participants over the four days of the conference from 25th to 28th May 2010.

For an overview of what happened throughout those exciting four days – visit the 2010 Conference website at http://www.spectronicsinoz.com/conference/2010. Details of the conference program, prizes, competitions and other activities can all be found there. Photos and videos which capture just some of the intensive learning experiences, along with the fun camaraderie and networking of the event are also featured there!

Over 500 Feedback Forms were completed by participants in the 2010 conference and each and every form and comment has been read and analysed by the Conference Committee! Overwhelmingly, the feedback was positive. Two of our favourite comments (of many glowing responses) were these two.

“Spectronics’ Conference 2006 changed my teaching practices and now 2008/2010 has revolutionised my classroom! This is because topics are relevant and research-based. Practical application in the classroom can start the day you return. For this I thank you.”

“I was inspired by the conference. I am now feeling completely different about technology – was feeling tired and frustrated with all the breakdowns and lack of tech support, but now I am desperate to get back to the classroom and embrace technology.”

The main concerns expressed were about the size of the venue and presentation rooms. Quite simply, it was evident that we had outgrown the lovely Marriott Hotel as our conference venue. We were faced with the choice of staying on there and having to cap delegate numbers at 500 for the 2012 conference, or moving to a larger venue to ensure no-one missed out on the opportunity to register in future. So … a larger venue it had to be! Jupiters Gold Coast Hotel and Convention Centre has been booked already!

What will be different at the 2012 Conference?

  • Four new International Keynote Presenters (with more to be announced soon)!
  • A MUCH bigger conference venue allowing room for you to move around easily, and to be able to comfortably fit into the rooms for your preferred sessions.
  • Bigger hands-on Windows and Apple Mac Laptop Labs
  • More repeat sessions in the program to minimise the oft-stated dilemma of trying to decide which is the best of several great sessions running concurrently!
  • Pre-booking of sessions will be back too! But it will be optional. If you want to “pre-select” the sessions you wish to attend, you will be able to do so once the program is complete. This will ensure you have a guaranteed place in your preferred sessions and will help us to work out which sessions need to be allocated bigger rooms. If you don’t want to pre-select and just wish to “wing it” while at the conference, that will be fine too.
  • And of course … a bigger Conference Dinner dance floor!

What will be the same at the 2012 Conference?

  • Inspirational and motivational presentations focusing on applications of inclusive learning technologies to support independent achievement in the classroom and beyond!
  • Great learning! Great networking! Great fun!
