Customising the Visual Display Settings in Clicker 5

It is possible to change the display settings in Clicker 5 to make the program more accessible to users with visual impairments.
Toolbar icons
Changing a number of icons on the Clicker Writer or Grid toolbar
You can select a number of icons that will be displayed on the Clicker Writer toolbar or the grid toolbar by doing the following:
- Go to File
- Select Settings
- Select Toolbars
- Click on any icon to select or deselect it
- It is possible to hide all icons from either toolbars. To do this select the button that says Hide all tools.
Changing the size of the toolbar icons and tooltips

- Go to Options
- Click on User Preferences
- Click on the Appearance tab

- You can change the size of the writer, grid or editing toolbars by clicking one of the dropdown menus and selecting the size that you want
- To change the size of the tooltip text, select Choose font and choose the required font
- Click OK.

The following icons can be selected from the Clicker writer toolbar.

Highlighting words as they are spoken
This feature may help some students better visually track text being read aloud and help them focus on particular words.
- Go to File, Settings, Clicker Writer
- Click on the Speech tab
- Place a ticket in the box next to you highlight words as they are spoken
- You can also choose the colour you want the word to be highlighted in.

Line spacing
- Go to File, Settings, Clicker Writer
- Click the up or down arrows to increase or decrease the line spacing in the document.

Changing the default font for the start-up document
- Go to File, Settings, Clicker Writer
- Select the tab Starting Document
- From here you can select the default font size, style and colour
- You can also choose which document starts up with a particular grid set

Magnify Clicker Writer Display
- Go to Options, User Access
- Click on the Display tab

- Go to Clicker Writer Display
- Click on the drop down menu beside Magnify Clicker Writer to alter the % size of the font. You can increase the size up to 500%.
- Click OK.
Changing Grid Display settings
Certain features of a grid may be altered to make it visually more acceptable to students with vision difficulties.
Changing the colour of the grid
To change the colour of any single grid you are working on
- Go to Edit, and then Edit Mode
- Select the grid icon on the editing toolbar

- From here you can change the background pattern from Gradient, to Solid Colour or Texture or Picture
- Click OK when you are happy with your changes.

- Go to Edit, and then Edit Mode
- From the editing toolbar click on Explorer. This will show you all the grids in your sequence as well as the master grids

- Go down to Master grids section at the bottom of the screen and double-click on the grid with the same dimensions as the one you are editing in your sequence

- You will notice the Master Grid has a red border
- Change the grid colour in by going to the editing toolbar and clicking on the Grid icon and alter the pattern as you did in the previous section
- Now go back to the grid(s) you are editing in the grid sequence by selecting Explorer, then the grid in your sequence to open it.
Note: Any changes you do to the master grid will occur to grids in your sequence that are of the same dimensions
Change of size of font in a cell
- In Edit Mode, right click over the cell
- Go to Properties
- Select Font or Text colour to make display changes to the font.

Changing the background colour in cells
Changing the background colour of a cell may make that cell easier to locate for some students or it may accentuate words, phrases or sentences which are important in your activity.
- In Edit Mode, right click over a cell
- Go to Properties
- Go to Background colour
- Select the colour you want from the palette displayed
- Click OK.
User Access Settings
- Go to Options, User Access and Display
- Change the contrast colours for the grid by clicking on the drop down menu for Colour Scheme

- To set the default font for cells, click in the box to place a tick beside the option in cells, always use this font

- If you have a font that has animated pictures in it, then you can disable the animation by selecting Disable animation in cells
- Click OK once you have modified the settings.
