Queensland
Cerebral Palsy League (CPL) – Technology Support Service
Cerebral Palsy League’s (CPL) Technology Support Service offers a broad range of Assistive Technology services for Queenslanders with a physical disability including free phone and email advice and support, device and equipment training and development (for individuals and organisations), assessments by experienced occupational therapists, speech pathologists and physiotherapists, an equipment loans library for clients and staff and the production of low-tech communication aids and customised communication books.
Disability Services Support Unit (Education Queensland)
The purpose of Disability Services Support Unit (DSSU) is to enhance and facilitate inclusive education practices. This involves supporting specialists who work with students with disabilities so that these students experience quality participation, maximised learning opportunities and achievement of the best possible educational outcomes. They offer a range of services including a loans facility, supervision and support for specialists and assistive technology updates via their On-Line Newsletter
LifeTec Queensland (Formerly ILC Technology Queensland)
LifeTec Queensland is an active member of the Independent Living Centres Association of Australia. LifeTec Queensland shares the skill and knowledge to allow people to choose the most appropriate assistive technology for their needs. LifeTec Queensland raises community awareness and understanding of assistive technology, works directly with clients to solve individual problems, educates professionals and the community on assistive technology, and advocates for communities to acknowledge and remove barriers to access and independence both in public an private policy.
New South Wales
Computer Assistive Technology Services (CATS) – New South Wales
The Computer Assistive Technology Services (CATS) provides information, advice and support regarding assistive technology options for people with disabilities. Assistive technology offers people with disabilities increased independence in the areas of computer access, communication and access to everyday appliances at school, home and work. CATS is staffed by speech pathologists and occupational therapists with a high level of expertise in assistive technology. CATS can provide advisory services for Access and Communication options.
Technology Solutions for Computer Access, Seating and Communication (TASC) – New South Wales
TASC is a customised service of the Spastic Centre of NSW – designed to meet the technology, seating and mobility needs of people with disabilities in NSW. Click here for a TASC factsheet. The service is available across NSW and the ACT to families, educators, professionals and others interested in the operation and purchase of equipment.
Victoria
ComTEC – Victoria
ComTEC is a service of Yooralla and offers services throughout Victoria to people of all ages with a disability who have communication and technology needs. The ComTEC team consists of speech pathologists and occupational therapists, with expertise in communication and technology for people with disabilities. Among the range of services offered is an Electronic Equipment Library.
Vision Australia – Education Support and Training for Clients
Vision Australia, a Registered Training Organisation, offers a range of accredited training programs for people who are blind or have low vision to assist them in achieving maximum independence and an enhanced quality of life.
Using the latest adaptive technology and teaching techniques, students are equipped with the knowledge and skills that help them open up new pathways to employment, independent living and further education.
Western Australia
ILC Technology of Western Australia
ILC Technology WA has an Assistive Technology and Equipment Program. Visitors to the Independent Living Centre are able to see and trial a wide range of equipment that can assist with some tasks at home, school, work or in the community. Advice and assistance is available from one of the ILC’s Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists.
They have specialist service for communication aids and provide:
- Information and advice on computer access, hardware and software, high and low tech communication devices and environmental controls via the telephone, fax and mail enquiry service
Tasmania
ILC – Tasmania
ILC Tas (Independent Living Centre) provides a professional information, education, advisory and consultancy service on: daily living equipment, building access and design, assistive technology and resources for people with disabilities, the aged, their carers and service providers. It includes the Technology Access Service which provides services in the North and North West of Tasmania. ILC Tas Technology Access Service provides assistive technology consultancy and support service to assist people with disabilities to access computers, communication technology and environmental controls.
New Zealand
TalkLink – Assistive Technology Services
TalkLink provides specialist assessments to determine goals, skills, areas of difficulty and possible equipment that will enhance function and increase independence for people with disabilities and impairments.
Services provided by TalkLink include:
- Assistive Communication equipment trials, as part of the specialist assessment process
- Training and support, in the use of communication equipment strategies
- The completion of funding applications, for the purchase of client’s assistive technology equipment
- Consultation meetings, with clients and allied professionals
- Information provision to help people, who as a result of their role in the community, need to know about assistive technology, by telephone, fax, internet and e-mail, and through training courses and seminars.
New Zealand
Astech Assistive Technology Centre
Astech Assistive Technology Centre is located in Christchurch and provides the following services for people with special needs in the South Island of New Zealand:
- Therapy services and software for people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities, including assessment services
- Occupational therapy, speech-language therapy and physiotherapy.
