Ability Technology provides specialised services for people with disability, service providers, teachers and legal professionals.


The ADC Network
A web based information exchange service for consumers with disabilities – aiming to guide visitors efficiently through the myriad of Internet sites designed to be useful to people with disabilities.


AEIOU (Autism Early Intervention Outcomes Unit)
AEIOU is a centre dedicated to providing children with autism and their families the best possible treatment and support. AEIOU offers an educational program specifically designed for children with autism, aged between 18 months and 6 years.


AGOSCI (The Australian Group On Severe Communication Impairment)
AGOSCI was founded in 1981 by a group of professionals who saw the need to promote information exchange about severe communication impairment. Association for Children with a Disability
An information, support and advocacy organisation for children with a disability and their families. This organisation based in Victoria, Australia, is run by parents of children with a disability and most of the organisation’s staff and committee members are also parents – so they appreciate what it means to have a child with a disability. They offer information and support for all types of disability and are a non-profit organisation.


Australian Dyspraxia Support Group And Resource Centre
The Australian Dyspraxia Support Group and Resource Centre was incorporated in 1998. The group consists of parents and professionals who have children or have an interest in helping children with dyspraxia.

The group is independent of any other organisation and is run by democratically elected individuals consisting of both parents and professionals.


Australian Learning Disability Association (ALDA)
ALDA aims to provide access to information and resources for individuals with learning disabilities (LD), their families, educators and the general public of Australia. Computer Assistive Technology Services (CATS) – New South Wales
The Computer Assistive Technology Services (CATS) provides information, advice and support regarding assistive technology options for people with disabilities. Assistive technology offers people with disabilities increased independence in the areas of computer access, communication and access to everyday appliances at school, home and work. CATS is staffed by speech pathologists and occupational therapists with a high level of expertise in assistive technology. CATS can provide advisory services for Access and Communication options.


ComTEC
ComTEC offers services throughout Victoria to people of all ages with a disability who have communication and technology needs. The ComTEC team consists of speech pathologists, occupational therapists and I.T. support with expertise in communication and technology for people with disabilities.


Disability Information & Resource Centre of South Australia
A comprehensive site dedicated to just about every aspect of disability. The site is well set out with a directory of fact sheets on disability, information on disability services, newsletters from various disability organisations, legislation, benefit entitlements (CRS and Department of Social Security), and links to other related sites.


Disability Related Websites
This site is maintained by Kay Dean, National Disability Coordination Officer based at the University of Newcastle in Australia. It contains links to many useful Australian and overseas organisations relating to services and products (including assistive technologies) of benefit to post-secondary students with disabilities or learning difficulties.


e-bility
This is a new Australian site managed by Sandra Vassallo, an occupational therapist with many years hands-on experience in the disability field. She now also consults on accessible web design and develops accessible websites – with the e-bility site being the recent winner of the Hornsby Shire Council 1999 Access Award.. The e-bility site offers helpful hints and informative articles from around the world, on a wide range of topics of interest to people with disabilities, their families, carers and service providers. e-bility’s goal is to develop a focal point where people can come together to easily access the information and resources they need – information that is timely, current, and often hard to find – yet highly sought after.

Greypath – Empowering seniors and enriching the quality of their lives
Greypath is Australian owned Internet Portal and entertainment site for Seniors and Retirees. It is designed to be both comprehensive in its coverage, and at the same time, user friendly, being of value to both beginners and experienced users. Greypath was developed by Raymond Lewis, an ex high tech businessman and public company chairman. Now a senior, he found himself being considered too old for day to day life in the IT world.

The Independent Living Centres Australia (ILCA) is a collective organisation with members in each Australian states and the ACT.
The ILCA’s role is to advance a federal agenda on issues and needs at a national level. The ILCA also provides information and advice to government and policymakers and raises awareness of the role assistive technology plays in maintaining health and wellbeing in the Australian community.

The Independent Living Centre of Western Australia (ILC) is a not for profit organisation staffed by teams of qualified and experienced health professionals who provide customers with disabilities, mobility and accessibility problems with personalised assistance to find the best solution for their needs that will maximise their quality of life.


LeapFrog ability (formerly Life Activities)
LeapFrog ability is a Newcastle-based organisation focused on achieving better outcomes in everyday living for people with a disability and those who support them. It runs five programs designed to meet the needs of people with a disability. The client’s support network is also given particular attention – being supported by an email help line for carers in the Hunter region. Programs also include workshops and training sessions offered on a broad range of topics. Some are suitable for the person with disability, while others will assist carers and volunteers. Some of the more advanced courses for health and disability workers are accredited and count towards tertiary studies.

School Age Interest Group
The School Age Interest Group based in Western Australia is a group which aims to encourage sharing of information between professionals and families interested in the well being of school age children with disabilities. It publishes an informative newsletter each school term and in August 1999 in Perth, hosted its Inaugural Conference.


The Spastic Centre of NSW
A worthwhile resource especially for information on cerebral palsy. The home page provides links to programs and services offered by the centre, as well as other general information.

An independent, community-based non-profit organisation which promotes and supports the involvement of adults with disabilities in their local communities.


Special Education Support – Catholic Education Office Wollongong
This site presents a wealth of resources for using technology in special education settings. It features computer tips, examples of students’ work, IntelliTools product features and technical tips, to name a few.
